Know What's Covered Before Something Breaks.

A failed transmission or a dead A/C compressor is stressful enough. I show you which parts an auto warranty may protect, what it leaves out, and how a claim moves.

Parts a Plan May Protect

Engine Block

Pistons, crankshaft, timing chain and oil pump sit at the core of most plans. Richer tiers may add seals and gaskets.

Transmission

Gears, torque converter, transfer case and axles move power to the wheels. Look for the full drivetrain on the parts list.

Wiring & A/C

Alternator, starter, wiring, window motors and the A/C compressor. These often show up only in the higher plans.

Steering Rack

Rack and pinion, power steering pump, control arms and ball joints keep the car tracking straight and riding smooth.

Behind Every Covered Repair

Auto warranty plans can look the same until you open the parts list. I break that list into simple words. Real coverage always depends on the agreement you pick, its covered parts, exclusions and conditions.

Drivers Who Checked First

Delbert M

Pickup owner

My truck's transfer case started grinding and I had no clue if my plan touched it. The parts breakdown here showed me exactly where to look in my agreement.

Lavonne S

Minivan owner

I always skipped the exclusions page. After going through it here, I finally saw why worn brake rotors were never going to be part of a claim.

Darrell P

High-mileage sedan

With so many miles on my car, I figured nothing would qualify. The eligibility answers were honest about the limits and helped me ask better questions.

Marlys T

Used crossover

When my A/C compressor quit, I already had my service receipts in a folder because of what I learned here. The claim went smoother than I expected.

Sherman B

Hatchback owner

No pressure and no sales script. Just clear answers about what a plan covers and what it leaves out, so I could decide on my own.

Coralie R

Work van owner

I had no idea a lift kit could change my coverage. Finding that out here saved me from a nasty surprise with my van.

Questions Worth Asking

Short answers to the things drivers wonder about before picking a plan.

The base tier on most plans: the engine, transmission and the parts that turn the wheels.

A factory warranty ends at a set mileage. An auto warranty plan can pick up after that, on its own terms.

Usually not. Any licensed shop can do routine care, as long as it follows the maker's schedule.

Some plans include them and some don't. Check the benefits section first.

Many plans leave out cars used for paid driving. If your car earns money, look for a plan that allows commercial use.
